SHARP technology, a groundbreaking innovation in nucleic acid amplification, emerged from the laboratory of Prof. Taekjip Ha at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in Baltimore, MD. Momčilo, the leading postdoctoral fellow on the project, played a pivotal role in implementing an engineered helicase for nucleic acid amplification. Meanwhile, Taylor focused on utilizing engineered helicase for genome editing applications. Leveraging their extensive research experience, the SHARP Diagnostics team was formed and demonstrated the commercial potential at the 2022 HopStart business competition held at Johns Hopkins University, where their business plan was honored with the prestigious Garrick Ahn Award. After the competition, SHARP Diagnostics LLC was established with the mission to push the boundaries of molecular diagnostic technologies, drive advancements in next-generation point-of-care and home tests, and make molecular diagnostics cost effective and widely available.
